The families living at Trapeang Anh Chan (TAC) were relocated from central Phnom Penh in 2012 to make way for a railway project. While they have received some support in their new location, one key missing element is access to employment.
While the relocation site provided housing for community members, the 20 kilometer trip to the city means many cannot afford to travel to find work elsewhere. Cambodia Knits provided training in both knitting and crocheting for interested community members, which has so far enabled 11 more producers to join our team.
This community was the first to learn to crochet as part of our new line of crochet toys. The launch of this new product line was made possible by the great support we received for our Kickstarter campaign so if you contributed for one of our crochet creatures, your support was key to helping these producers earn a fair income close to home.
